Why are we doing this? Why is it important?
While there are always needs for the unhoused in our community, this winter is looking particularly grim- here's why.
The city announced in October that it's usual Winter Contingency Plan for local shelters, which tries to ensure there is room for anyone who needs it at shelters, will not be happening this year. Specifically, the shelters have declared they can only guarantee space for Single Women and Single Men- there will be virtually no shelter space for homeless Indianapolis families this winter.
Many homeless service providers, especially those working directly with the homeless population of Indianapolis, have responded directly to this need by taking matters into our own hands and trying to do as much outreach work as possible to connect every adult and child living on the streets of Indianapolis this winter with the supplies they need to survive the harshest of conditions.
This event is not affiliated with any Organization- it is a grassroots project that you get to be a part of by just showing up.
